About Us

A Central American company operating from Honduras and serving the Central American region by offering engineering and financial advisory services. Founded in 2007 by Mrs. María D. García and Mr. Mario F. Cerna, after serving the most emblematic development financial institutions operating in the Latin American region, such as the Inter-American Development Bank, the Nordic Development Fund (NDF), the German Cooperation Agency (GIZ), and the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI).

We combine our engineering and financial capabilities into one single shop to provide investment advice for project developers in the Central American region implementing sustainable initiatives in the infrastructure, agribusiness and energy sector. In parallel, and given our expertise and track-record, we’re capable to attract new sources of funding by tapping development funds earmarked for emerging and frontier funds.

About the Founders

Mr. Mario Fernando Cerna, CEO. Mr. Cerna is a co-founding partner of ECOFICIENCIA. He brings substantial experience in the renewable energy and energy efficiency realms and fundraising for private sector companies in the Central American region. He has over 20 years of experience in development finance, having served in various capacities for leading entities in Latin America and the Caribbean, such as the Interamerican Development Bank (IDB) and Th Nordic Development Fund (NDF), where he contributed to the direct approval of approximately USD 1.3 billion. Fernando has advanced skills in the field of financial structuring for sustainable infrastructure projects such as hydroelectric, solar, wind, and other projects.

Mrs. María Denisse García Merlo, COO. Mrs. García is a co-founding partner of ECOFICIENCIA. She has over 20 years of professional experience, having served as Project Manager for housing projects in various parts of Honduras with GrupoW, assistant to the head of Construction in the Bureau of Highways within the national government and as a consultant for the German Cooperation Agency (GIZ) and the Honduran Chamber of the Construction Industry (CHICO), for which she developed the Energy Efficiency Manual for Building Construction in Honduras. Throughout her professional career, Mrs. García has developed skills in project formulation, personnel management, procurement, construction, planning, monitoring and reporting. She also possesses advanced skills in Information Technology (ICT), including data management and strategic planning.
